Mark C. Hanisch

Associate

Mr. Hanisch joined Kluczynski, Girtz & Vogelzang in 2016 after having practiced law with Grand Rapids-area law firms. He graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1978 and obtained his B.A. degree from Grinnell College in 1975.

Mark is a former chairperson of the Real Estate section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association and is rated “AV-Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer review certification awarded by Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Hanisch has represented individuals, businesses and property management companies in a wide variety of matters, with a special emphasis on condominium development, condominium and homeowner association matters, lakefront property issues and disputes, real estate transactions, real estate title problems, easements, adverse possession and other boundary line disputes, and general business issues.

Some of the representative cases Mr. Hanisch has handled include negotiating settlements affecting remaining and departing co-owners in a condominium association after one of the project’s buildings, containing more than 100 units, was destroyed by fire; establishing by judicial order that land titled in the names of individual property owners was to be used as “community property” by all owners in probably the first “de facto” condominium project in the City of Grand Rapids; assisting multiple condominium associations in complex and sometimes controversial situations, such as helping them to enact amendments to their condominium documents to limit the number of units which can be leased; assisting clients in establishing ownership of land existing between their deeded lot lines and adjoining lakes; and saving a client’s home and business after those properties were foreclosed upon as part of a real estate scam.

Having been raised in the Chicago area, Mr. Hanisch is an avid fan of Chicago’s professional sports teams and is or was a season ticket holder of both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He also enjoys APBA baseball, fishing and yearly family trips to Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Canada, situated on beautiful Lake of the Woods. Mr. Hanisch also takes great pleasure in spending time with his wife, Sheila, his sons, Justin and Brandon, and the family’s dog, Shorty.
